I just got this new trike, actually it's called a personal activity vehicle PAV3, the 3 stands for 3 speed. It also has an electric assist front hub motor.
I love getting on this contraption not just for the health benefits I will eventually reap but also for the looks and conversations that inevitably crop up when I'm out and about! People consistently stop me to ask where I got it, how much it cost, who the manufacturer is (Worksman Cycles). I enjoy these brief interludes since these are some of my first forays back in the real world.
I've been disabled for some time, not being able to walk long distances without my knees giving out. I used a walker to get short distances but had to rest frequently. I took Access (known to most as "the short bus") to the grocery and Dr's but that was about it. Most of the time, I was a recluse.
Because of this, most of my friends have stopped calling me or asking me to go places as I became very depressed and frankly, who can blame them? I was a bummer to be around.
Two things saved me from my own destruction; MMJ and my trike!
Now, I don't partake of MMJ when about to ride because I need to keep alert. Some people say it's perfectly okay to drive when you're stoned but I say that's BS! It's scary enough being a smaller, foot powered vehicle sharing the road with motor vehicles but trying to remember using your hand signals even when your straight can be nerve wracking.
All of this brings me to the dilemma at hand. As the name of my blog suggests, there are no shortage of hills in Seattle, WA. Hell, it's all hills! The question is; how do I plan my route so that I can avoid the largest/steepest ones. No, I cannot put my trike on a bus rack. It's a three wheeler not a two.
So I think I'll dedicate this blog to the routes I take and let you know what I come up with.
If you've got tried and true routes for getting places, I'm all ears. Yes, I've got the Seattle bicycle map from the DOT, but those are just for the already established routes. I'm talking routes to everywhere without having to burn out my loins, at least for the time being.
